WBOR Takes 3rd at National Championships

imgp3996Wrightsville Beach Ocean Rescue sent a very small crew of athletes to the 2016 National Championship held in Hermosa Beach, CA this past August. Despite the fact that WBOR could not afford to send a full team to California, the small team that competed was still successful in taking 3rd place in the small beach division. This was the third year in a row that Wrightsville Beach finished third at the United States Lifeguard National Championships. The WBOR team achieved their third place finish behind Smith Point, NY and Fort Lauderdale, FL by placing in the following events:


Lindsey Gerkens

  • 1st place in 30–34 Women’s surf ski race
  • 1st place in 30–34 Women’s Ironwoman
  • 1st place in 30–34 Women’s Surf Board Race
  • 2nd place in 30–34 Women’s Run-Swim-Run
  • 2nd place in 30–34 Women’s Board Race
  • 7th place in Open Womens Surfboat

Maurice Peacock

  • 1st place 30–34 Men’s Beach Flags
  • 6th place in Open Men’s Rescue Race
  • 8th place Open Men’s Beach Flags
  • 12th place Open landline rescue race
  • 12th place in Open Mens 4 x 100 Run Relay

Hunter Hay

  • 2nd place 30–34 Men’s 2K Beach Run
  • 3rd place 30–34 Men’s Surf Ski Race
  • 12th place in open Mens 4 x 100 Run Relay

Ross Monroe

  • 3rd place Open Mens 2K Beach Run
